mod_timedfetch is a module that can help you fetch a page in a periodic manner. the module allows you to fetch an url and then you can:

Save the content as log
Save the content overwriting the old one (for example, to get the image of the day from a site, with no need to rewrite the content item)
Ignore the content gathered and trash it.

All this storages can be full size reply storage or save only a chunk, with the posibility to set the chunk size. (better when used with store as log option.)
